RLST 097 SC - Queer African ChristianitiesThis course examines the premodern social construction of gender and human sexuality as inscribed in the texts and material culture of Christians hailing from Egypt, Ethiopia, and the Nubian kingdoms (Nobadia, Makouria, Alodia). Specifically, we examine how holy Christian women and men transgressed and subverted gender normativities through gender-queer performatives. Course Credit: 1.0 Offered: Occasionally
