A survey of the major social, economic, intellectual, and political developments from the period of colonial settlement to the Civil War. Topics to be covered include the evolution of colonial society, the American Revolution and its impact, slavery and race, abolitionism, and other reform movements, the early industrial revolution, and westward migration.
