FREN 142 SC - Comedy in the Age of Louis XIV This course takes a dual approach to examining the politics of laughter during the reign of Louis XIV. In the first half of the course, our readings of work by Isaac de Benserade, Moliere, Francoise Pascal will focus on the various funtions of laughter and comedy, particularly with respect to issues of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and socio-economic status. In the second half of the course, students will work in teams to create and perform a micro-scene based on one of the plays.
