Requirements for the Major

Core Requirements (six courses)

1.  One course in performance:

• THEA 001A PO - Basic Acting: Tools and Fundamentals , THEA 001C PO - Basic Acting: Chicano Theatre and Performance , THEA 001E PO - Acting for Social Change , THEA 001F PO - Basic Acting: Performing Asia America  or
• THEA 008 PO - Collective Creation 

2.  One course in design:

• THEA 002 PO - The Dramatic Imagination 

3.  Two courses in theatre history/dramatic literature:

• THEA 030 PO - World Theatre and Drama I: Greeks to Restoration 
• THEA 031 PO - Word Theatre and Drama II: Kabuki to Contemporary 

4.  One course in theatre technology:

• THEA 021 PO - Costume Construction
   
• THEA 022 PO - Stage Lighting Technology 
• THEA 023 PO - Theatre Crafts 
• THEA 024 PO - Sound for the Theatre 

5.  One course (or the equivalent) in movement:

• THEA 013 PO - Corporeal Mime 
• THEA 014 PO - Corporeal Mime and Pedagogy  and/or
• any studio course taught by the Pomona College Dance Program or the Scripps College Dance Department.

Note: This requirement (#5) may be met by one full credit course, or a combination of two half-courses, which can be in a single subject, or spread out among two of the three above.

Electives (two courses)

Any combination of full or half-credit courses not taken as part of the core requirements above. 

Majors are encouraged to take at least one theatre elective containing a community engagement component.

Junior Seminar (one course)

• THEA 188 PO - The Poetics of Performance 

Senior Exercise (one course)

• THEA 191F PO - Senior Thesis  or
• THEA 191H PO - Senior Thesis  and one of the following senior projects:

THEA 192H PO - Senior Project in Performance 

THEA 193H PO - Senior Project in Design 

THEA 194H PO - Senior Project in Dramaturgy 

THEA 195H PO - Senior Project in Directing 

Note: The faculty as a whole must approve each Senior Exercise no later than the end of the junior year.  Some Senior Projects will have specific electives as prerequisites.

Production Crew Assignments 

Academic credit for this work is available but not required.
