The College operates an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in case of emergency, major disaster, or large-scale incident. Designated students, faculty and staff have particular assignments for immediate assistance and coordination of response.
Fire:
- Contact Campus Safety Dispatch at 909-607-2000 or 909-607-7233 or extension 72000 from a campus phone and report the location and nature of the fire.
- Activate or ask someone to activate the closest fire alarm.
- Isolate the fire by closing doors behind you (do not lock).
- Evacuate to a designated evacuation site and report to the Department Monitor or other emergency personnel.
- Faculty please take attendance to ensure all students in your class have evacuated. If a student needs assistance with evacuating and the class was unable to assist immediately let Campus Safety know of the need and the location of the individual.
State and local fire laws require the following:
- One approved fire drill per semester coordinated by the Safety Operations Specialist and Residential Life. Students who fail to evacuate the residence halls during a fire drill may be subject to a fine of $150.
- Corridors and exiting doors must be free of obstructions at all times.
- Lighted candles or open flames in the residence halls are not permitted. Excessive amounts of combustibles (such as paper products and textiles attached to walls and ceilings or hung as room dividers) are considered fire hazards and are not permitted. Excessive amounts of combustible wall or ceiling decorations and the overloading of electrical outlets are prohibited.
- Corridor decorations and signs must be made from non-flammable materials or treated with an approved flame-retardant solution.
- No smoking is allowed within 25 feet of any campus building, student bedrooms, or in public areas in the residence halls. This includes, but is not limited to, browsing rooms, living rooms, hallways, stairwells, lounges, kitchenettes, interior courtyards, or balconies. Vapor cigarettes are also prohibited.
- Flammable liquids may not be used or stored in any residence hall.
- Cooking in student rooms is not permitted.
- If a residence hall fails to evacuate all of its residents, (i.e., a resident sleeps through the fire drill or does not hear the alarm), the residence hall will continue to have fire drills until the residents work together (i.e., door-knocking) to successfully evacuate the building.
Health:
For medical emergencies, Campus Safety should be called (extension72000 (909-607-2000) or extension 77233 (909-607-7233)). They will, in turn, be in contact with Los Angeles County Fire Department Emergency Medical System (EMS). Students requiring advanced medical care will be transported to a local hospital by a licensed ambulance provider as designed by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
