CORE 003 SC - Narratives of Memory: Spain and Latin American This course explores the process of memory production: how it is recounted or repressed through a selection of key cultural products ranging from novels, to zines, comics, songwriting, photography, performance or films created in Spain and Latin America. Among other questions, the course will ask: Can cultural texts function as a mode of witnessing the traumatic past, whether in post-dictatorship Spain, Chile or Argentina? Are current debates on Spanish or Catalan national identity grappling with Spain’s colonial legacies? How can the corporeal function as a map of cultural memory and resistance, as in Astrid Hadad’s (de)construction of Mexicanidad?
Course Credit: 1.0 Offered: Every year
