CLAS 012 SC - Greek Tragedy/Modern World We explore the strange world of Greek tragedy through a reading of selected plays (e.g., Sophocles, Euripides) and modern adaptations (plays and films). Why have these ancient plays been so influential? Students also learn about Dionysiac rituals, performance styles, theater archaeology, and reception theory. No prior knowledge necessary. Students will also have the opportunity to act out/direct/assist with scenes from ancient/modern plays.
This course satisfies either the Fine Arts or Letters general education requirement but not both.
