HIST 123 SC - Introduction to the Philosophy and History of Culture This course will focus on some of the major work in post-Enlightenment (19th and 20th centuries) thinking about culture: Kant’s Third Critique, Schiller’s Aesthetic Education, Arnold’s Culture and Anarchy. As well, it will examine later works on the historical development of the relationship between culture and society paying attention to the ways in which culture has shaped the social categories and experience of class, race, nation, and gender. This course is cross listed as HMSC 123 SC.
