HIST 154 SC - The Old South and Modern Memory This course explores the complexity and diversity of the Old South and the way in which this period and region continue to fascinate Americans. An in-depth examination of relationships between slaveholders and slaves, slaveholders’ wives, and slave women and slave men is a critical part of the course. Readings include diaries, slave narratives, and monographs that reveal the character of Southern society.
