POLI 105 SC - NATO in the 21st Century: The Atlantic Alliance Under Stress The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is often referred to as history’s most successful alliance. But NATO suffered a severe identity crisis after the Cold War, with its members divided in their attitudes towards both the Alliance’s traditional leader (the United States) and its traditional adversary (Russia). This course examines the history and prospects of the Atlantic alliance, focusing on the policies of France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
