ECON 137 SC - Economics of Health and Health Policy This course utilizes basic microeconomic theory to analyze the impact of various government policies as well as market forces on the provision of health care services in the United States and other countries. Topics include the market for private health insurance; government insurance programs such as Medicare and Medicaid; the effects of pharmaceutical patents; the effects of price controls; government licensing requirements for physicians and nurses; planning, budgeting, and monitoring mechanisms; and the efficiency and ethics of various systems of health care provision.
