SPAN 178 SC - Literary and Filmic Representations of the Spanish Civil War in Contemporary Spain. “Working through” Memory. This course explores the process of memory production: how it is recounted, repressed, rewritten or forgotten. Among other themes, the course will focus on the political currency of nostalgia in reconstructions of the war; the rehabilitation of marginal figures or groups; and debates about universal human rights principles versus national amnesty laws.
