ENGL 167C CH - Contemporary Chicana Literature Seminar This seminar analyzes how Chicana writers have negotiated with and against the symbolic inheritance (and the material social consequences) of four Mexican cultural icons of womanhood: La Malinche, La Virgen de Guadalupe, Sor Juana Inées de la Cruz, and La Llorona. Furthermore, the process of icon construction in Mexicanx-Chicanx culture will be explored by studying post-mortem representations of Selena Quintanilla. Cross-listed as CHST186 CH.
