CORE 003 SC - Representing LA: rock ‘n’ roll How does rock ‘n’ roll music produced in and about Los Angeles represent LA realities? In addition to touching on various genres of rock music that were created in this region, we will interrogate how and which LA “local truths” are perceived and communicated. The course will range from the theory of a monolithic popular culture industry proposed by Adorno and Marcuse to the theory of progressive cultural evolution that proposes a complex formation of discourses between producers and consumers.
