The course is designed to help students learn by involving them in the process of developing environmental policy, including developing solutions to specific problems. Although the course includes a reading list and class discussion, it emphasizes field work, field trips, and guest speakers representing government and the environment. The course focuses on two or three key environmental issues against which students will learn about the legislative process, direct legislation, regulation and regulatory bodies, intergovernmental relations, public opinion formation, and interest group lobbying.
