CORE 003 SC - Examined Lives This course asks you to look at the self—your self— as a creation of culture and a historical moment, to explore ways you have been constructed by your history and by histories of the present. We’ll see how the stories we tell ourselves, the patterns we fall back on in understanding ourselves, have been handed to us by the culture, by media, family, schooling— and think about possible alternatives. We’ll look at identity in terms of gender, class, family, ethnicity, education, reading, popular culture. For students interested in writing the self.
Instructor: G. Greene
