CORE 010A SC - Sex and the State Focusing primarily on the twentieth-century U.S., this course explores the relationship between sexuality, the body, and the modern state. We will draw on history, film, law, and literature to trace why the state promoted some sexualities while criminalizing others. We will also explore how sexual regulation shaped other categories of difference like gender, race, and class. Topics include sex work, sexual health, marriage, reproduction, and LGBTQ+ marginalization and resistance.
