BIOL 040L KS - Introduction to Biological Chemistry This course is designed for first-year students and must be taken concurrently with Chemistry 40L. The two courses together cover the topics in and provide an alternative to CHEM 014L KS - Basic Principles of Chemistry and BIOL 043L KS - Introductory Biology and highlight areas of overlap between the two disciplines. Chemistry topics covered include stoichiometry, periodicity, atomic and molecular structure, bonding theory, enthalpy, and phases of matter. Biology topics include introductory material in the fields of cell biology, biochemistry and genetics, including cell structure, metabolism, gene expression, and inheritance. In total, Biology 040L and Chemistry 040L will include six hours of lecture and eight hours of lab per week. Enrollment is by written permission of the instructors.
