PHIL 168 SC - The Rational and the Irrational The assumption of rationality plays a critical role both in our common sense understanding of ourselves and in the foundations of the behavioral and social sciences. This course is devoted to an examination of the nature and status of this assumption. Considerable attention will be paid to self-deception and to weakness of will. Readings drawn from contemporary philosophy and cognitive psychology.
