PHIL 169 SC - Responsibility, Guilt, and the Person The course will examine concepts of responsibility and guilt and their relation to the notion of autonomous agency. Under what circumstance is a charge of responsibility justified? What sorts of considerations undermine such a charge? We will also investigate the following: the status of the insanity defense, competing theories of punishment, and the notion of desert. Readings will be drawn from contemporary sources.
