POLI 140 SC - Introduction to Political Theory This survey course examines the evolution of central political concepts in the western tradition through close readings of major texts in political theory. Students will be introduced to the political thought of authors such as Plato, Machiavelli, Locke, Rousseau, Marx, and Mill, as well as contemporary writings. Special attention will be given to changing understandings of liberty and authority, equality and rights, legitimacy, and democracy. Open to first-year students. (fall)
