Requirements for the Major
A major in Art requires a minimum of 10 courses including senior seminar/thesis.
Electives Courses (seven upper-division)
Two of the seven electives must be at the intermediate/advanced level in Art, one of which must be completed before the senior year.
A minimum of four electives must also be completed before the senior year.
Areas of Study:
Book Arts, Ceramics, Digital Art, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, and Video Art. Appropriate courses will be determined in consultation with the major adviser. Any Art course offered at Scripps, Pomona , Pitzer, or HMC (excluding ART 060 HM), may count as an Art elective.

Ceramics: ART 120 SC , ART 121 SC , ART 122 SC , any four electives in Art (one of which must be intermediate), two courses to fulfill the Art History/Theory requirement, ART 192 SC .
Digital Art: ART 141 SC , ART 142 SC , ART 143 SC , ART 148 SC , any four electives in Art, two courses to fulfill the Art History/Theory requirement, ART 192 SC .
Painting: ART 101 SC , ART 102 SC , ART 105 SC , any four electives in Art, two courses to fulfill the Art History/Theory requirement, ART 192 SC .
Photography: , ART 141 SC , ART 145 SC , ART 147 SC , any four electives in Art, two courses to fulfill the Art History Theory requirement, ART 192 SC .
Video: ART 141 SC , ART 148 SC , ART 149 SC , any four electives in Art, two courses to fulfill the Art History/Theory requirement, ART 192 SC .
Art History/Theory Courses (two)
Another theory seminar from Art History or Media Studies may be substituted in consultation with your adviser. Must be completed before the senior year.
Senior Courses (one)
- ART 192 SC Senior Project and Seminar in Art , a required course encompassing thesis and project to be completed in the fall semester of the senior year*
- *ART 193 SC Advanced Senior Project in Art , an elective course that extends the research completed in ART 192 SC and culminates in the Senior Art Exhibition in the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery. Each senior will work independently with a committee of 2-3 faculty consisting of their thesis readers. The first two readers must be from the Scripps Art Department.
