ENGL 189D SC - Genre: The Art Film In the ’50s and ’60s, foreign films became a cultural phenomenon in the United States. They were seen as works of art, in contrast to the “products” of the Hollywood “factory.” We will study these films in terms of their reception in American culture. Works by Bergman, Fellini, Kurosawa, Bunuel, Godard, Ray, and others.
