HIST 112 SC - Nuns, Saints, and Mystics from Late Antiquity to Early Modern Europe This course investigates female religious movements, forms of embodied spirituality, convent cultures before and after the Council of Trent, models of female sanctity and the rise of “fake saints,” instances of possession, the cult of the Virgin Mary, race relations and conversion efforts. Mix of primary sources and secondary literature.
