RLST 020 PO - The Biblical Heritage The Bible is hugely important for the formation and ongoing structure of U.S. American culture, and yet all too often it is read very superficially, or in ways that make manifest layered assumptions about its religious meaning. This course introduces the diverse texts that make up the Bible. Students will explore the texts through careful reading and critical analysis, using a variety of interpretive strategies, including historical, literary, and ideological critical analyses. Students will be asked to engage critically with the biblical text, with their own interpretations of the texts, as well as with scholarly works about the Bible. HRT II.
