FREN 160 SC - Hugo, Women, and the French Revolution This class looks at the French Revolution through Victor Hugo’s novel Quatre-Vingt-Treize and the lives and writings of outstanding women of the era. It explores the representation of the guillotine as a “feminine” arm of justice and the rise of Marianne as a national symbol. Satisfies the pre-1900 requirement.
