HIST 173 AF - Black Intellectuals and the Politics of Race What does it mean to be a racialized “other” and how does one respond to such a label? This course explores the varied and complex ways black intellectuals in the United States addressed biological racism and the persistence of the idea of race from the mid-nineteenth into the twenty-first centuries through essays, novels, films, and books.
