CORE 002 SC - Doing Queer Histories What is the history of “queer”? What counts as queer history and who is included? We’ll explore different representations of queer histories in this course: the histories told by academics (literary and cultural, queer and feminist, political and anthropological), by art (fictional, lyrical, autobiographical, filmic), and the histories told by historians. Our guiding question will be the historiographical one that asks why we seek out and imagine a relationship with queer figures and events of the past. How, in other words, does our knowledge of a particular queer past inflect and understanding of the present moment and ourselves?
