RLST 097 PO - Dante’s Religious Journey In Dante’s medieval Christian poem the Commedia, Dante as pilgrim traces a path that leads him ultimately to a vision of God. This course will examine that path closely and in larger context, beginning with its pagan origins in Homer’s Odyssey and Virgil’s Aeneid and ending with its seculo-religious unraveling in Primo Levi’s memoir Survival in Auschwitz. We will ask whether a medieval Christian journey can be undertaken in a modern, pluralistic context.
