ENGL 122 SC - Gothic Fiction A study of the Gothic novel, a literature of extreme emotion that subverted the earlier 18th-century emphasis on reason and helped inaugurate the Romantic period. Readings include works by Horace Walpole, Ann Radcliffe, Matthew G. Lewis, Charles Robert Maturin, Mary Shelley, William Godwin, Emily Bronte, and Jane Austen.
