Veteran’s Benefits and Responsibilities

As students of Scripps College, veterans or their eligible dependents may be entitled to education benefits through Veterans Affairs. All students who wish to use their benefits shall submit a Certification Request Form each semester or term they wish to use their benefits. Students who receive VA benefits are responsible for promptly notifying the VA Certifying Official in the Registrar’s Office of changes in academic program, course load, address, marital or dependent status, and of withdrawal from one or more classes.

Veterans eligible for transfer credit from work completed at a previous institution should contact the Registrar to discuss their academic plan, and determine their planned graduation session and year. Eligible transfer work must be recorded on an official transcript from the institution, and will be retained in the student’s academic file.

Students who receive Veteran’s Affairs (VA) education benefits may not apply those benefits toward study abroad, as they are applicable only to Title-38-approved institutions. VA-benefit recipients should consider domestic programs approved by the SAGE Office for their study away experience. Programs of study which require a study away experience outside the United States (example: Foreign Languages, French and Francophone Studies, etc.) may be ineligible for VA education benefits. Contact the School Certifying Official to determine which programs of study are eligible for VA education benefits.

Questions about enrollment status should be directed to the VA Certifying Official in the Registrar’s Office located in Balch Hall (909) 621-8273. For information about benefits, contact the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (https://benefits.va.gov/benefits/) or the Registrar’s Office.
