CHST 186 CH - Seminar in Late 20th Century Chicana Literature This seminar analyzes how Chicanx writers have negotiated with and against the symbolic inheritance (and the material social consequences) of four Mexican cultural icons of womanhood: La Malinche, La Virgen de Guadalupe, Sor Juana Inées de la Cruz, and La Llorona. Furthermore, the process of icon construction in Mexicanx-Chicanx culture will be explored by studying post-mortem representations of Selena Quintanilla. Cross listed as ENGL167C CH .
