ART 153 JT - Materials & Extractions Using critical theory and ceramics, this course addresses histories of settler colonialism, labor, extraction, and materials production involved in the construction, landscaping, architecture, and visual culture of Greater Los Angeles/Southern California. These histories will be engaged in relationto geographies formed, and communities shaped by, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, and (dis)abilities, to name a few axes of difference, power, and identity. The course will involve intersectional and interdisciplinary methods of research and analysis, as well as studio-based ceramics art practice. No previous experience in ceramics is necessary.
