RLST 093A SC - Modern Middle Eastern Literature & Film The goal of this course is to read and critically examine a range of literary writings from the modern Middle East with a view to gain insights into changing conceptions of self, society and culture. Among the literary themes taken up are those pertaining to gender, sexuality, war, migration, religion, and ‘East-West’ relations. Emphasis is assigned to modern prose translations (i.e., genres of novella, novel, short story), but importance also will be given to poetry and film.
