ANTH 124 SC - Economy and Society of China

This course will introduce students to China?s economy and society through an anthropological lens, with a particular focus on the interplay between cultural logics of money, commerce, polity, and ethics. Not only will we examine historical research on China?s economy past and present, we will also engage with ethnographies, creative nonfiction, films, novels, and social media to understand the social lives of both elite and marginalized communities. Course meets the Social Science general education requirement.
